Ok let me explain the importance of the domain name in SEO (Search Engine Optimization) with some real life scenarios.

Let me start with the search engine jumbo – Google.com. The website “health.com” ranks as no.1 for the search term “health”. Similarly “shop.com” and “shoes.com” rank as no. 1 for the search terms “shop” and “shoes” respectively. These sites also rank in top 10 results for the same keywords in other major search engines like Yahoo Search and MSN Live (with an exception to health.com which ranks in 2nd page of Yahoo Search for “health”).

Favicon - The Little Graphic With Website Branding Power

Favicons or favourites icon are those little image graphics you see in your browser's url bar next to the http, on your tabs in your browser and of course beside your favourite bookmarks. Favicons are more than handsome graphics, they can be a powerful branding tool that can even help drive more traffic to your website!

Favicon file format is .ico or .png depending on which browser you are targeting. The easiest way to make a favicon .ico file is to use an online favicon generator. Starting with a graphic that helps brand your website and make it stand out amongst all the other bookmarked icons, run your image through that online tool and upload the finished product with the noted html and you are on your way to helping brand your website.

But what was that about increasing traffic? Yes indeed! If your site is interesting enough people will of course bookmark your website to come back later. But most of us have hundreds and even thousands of bookmarks and not always arranged well… So finding your bookmark amongst hundreds of others is not easy without a favicon making it stand out. On computers that are shared, a well-designed and eye-pleasing favicon could induce clicks from other users bringing you even more traffic.

Paying For Links To Improve PageRank? Google is Watching You!

In the search for better search engine rankings many webmasters seek to find any extra edge they can, and often that includes buying links from well-ranking websites. But in the eyes of Google this is now a no-no and should be punished. To that end, they have instituted a method to which other webmasters can point out any cheaters.

Problem with this is, with competition so cutthroat for top positions this cheat report function will surely be abused. How can Google or anyone else prove that links were purchased unless the links were openly sold? And what does Google have against people buying links for the traffic they may receive from high traffic websites? There should be no penalty for that.

When you log in to your Google webmaster tools look for the new report form. With it comes this message from Google, "Google uses a number of methods to detect paid links, including algorithmic techniques. We also welcome information from our users. If you know of a site that buys or sells links, please tell us by filling out the fields below. We'll investigate your submissions, and we'll use your data to improve our algorithmic detection of paid links."

Website Directory Submission - Find The Right SEO Company

As an owner or marketing director of a website you of course always want the most visitors to your website as possible. Numbers in any Internet enterprise is the name of the game. So undertaking link-building campaigns that include directory submissions should be on your to-do-list.

If you are new to online marketing and search engine optimization (SEO), directory submissions help you gain back-links to your website. You don't do this so much for any traffic that might come from the directories, but for the search engines indexing and counting your links as part of their internal apparatus for displaying search results. PostNuke Content Management System - Going Places

PostNuke content management system is a little piece of open source software that I have been using since 2003. I have built many a website for my clients, and for myself using this CMS. But when getting together with other web developers few seem to know it. Most know of its origin product, PHP-Nuke, but don't know much beyond the name of PostNuke. PostNuke has been in constant progression since July 2001.

My aim in this article is to detail some reasons why I believe you too may enjoy and also come to love, using PostNuke as your CMS.

First off, PostNuke will run equally well on a Windows server, as it will on a Linux/Unix driven one. The installation is done via an online installer, or you could do it manually. It is much easier to do it online - especially for new users. The guided install will check all your file and folder permissions and even create the database for you. Don't forget to delete any install folder files!
